Last week we were so incredibly proud of myself. Of course, we'll tell you why.
We went out for coffee, and did not order a cappuccino, but a strawberry shake.
And now you’re like:
“Wow we'll never get those 2 seconds back.”
…..
Pretending we didn’t hear that.
Now why was we so proud of myself? Was this strawberry shake healthy? Don’t think so.
Our best guess on the ingredients: strawberries, banana, cream, milk, ice cream and a dash of cocaine.
It was addictive.
We finished it in 37 seconds & then had a sore throat.
…boring story continues…
The reason we were proud was because it wasn’t coffee. Anything we order that is not coffee makes us incredibly happy and proud.
But we had a new addiction. And this one was not only unhealthy but in our cheap opinion too expensive.
So we had to DIY it that same day.
We had some soaked almonds, a banana and some frozen strawberries. And vanilla. We know from the past that these four can do magic together.
And oops, they did it again.
Because this healthy strawberry banana shake (or smoothie or whatever) is filled with antioxidants, fiber, good fats and has no cocaine or other unhealthy stuff in there!
And it’s paleo, vegan, gluten-free.
Which as we know makes every recipe solid.
We're just kidding, we don’t care if a recipe is any of these things. But this one happens to be all three.
And it’s ready in 5 minutes.
Okay, a fast note: We used whole, soaked almonds in this and water / not nut milk (we discovered we don’t like nut milks). Instead, you can also use almond butter (would be 3 tbsp) and almond milk – this will make it creamier.
Plus you’ll save yourself some pre-blending of the almonds.
The healthy strawberry smoothie is packed with vitamin E from the almonds and vitamin C from the strawberries, which together make an antioxidant combo with superpowers. That’s because vitamin E is fat-soluble protecting your cells’ membranes and vitamin C is water-soluble – protecting the cytosol, or the inside watery part of your cells.
This antioxidant combo is proven to be great for your skin health, reducing premature aging, but it might also improve pain in endometriosis, reduce inflammation and muscle damage after exercise and prevent numerous chronic diseases.
Alright now on to the recipe.

- Yield: 2
- Prep: 5 minutes
- Total: 13 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 banana
- 1 cup strawberries, frozen, defrosted for 10 mins
- 1/3 cup almonds, soaked
- some vanilla
- water as needed
Method
- Defrost berries for 5-10 minutes at room temperature to allow easier blending.
- If your blender isn't strong enough, you might need to pre-blend the almonds with 1/3 cup of water. Then add in the berries and banana and blend with 1/3 cup more water (or as needed).
- Otherwise, you can put all ingredients in your blender and blend with water or almond milk until smooth (we usually like to cover up to 75% of the filled blender cup - you can start with less and see how it goes).
- We used 2/3 cups of water for the entire smoothie and blended for about 2 minutes. However, the amount of liquid and time blending will depend on the type of blender you have and the thickness of the shake you'd like to achieve. It is safe to start with 1/2 cup liquid and adjust later.
Notes
You could also use natural almond butter instead or the almonds - 3 tbsp should be right.
