If we told you we've been thinking about making this tasty healthy cabbage salad with a sweet and spicy creamy dressing for weeks, maybe even months, you’d probably think our dreams are quite pathetic. And you’d be right. But dreams do come true when you work hard for them and now this notable cabbage slaw with its healthy flavorful dressing is a reality. A healthy, nutritious reality that you can serve as you please, meal prep and you can make in no time.

We know – a chef, motivational speaker and thought reader? Is there something you can’t do? Of course. We're not solid – some of our biggest weaknesses are our humility, honesty, beauty and, of course, our talented hands. They always get us in trouble. Especially when they’re grating carrots and often some of our fingers. But we tell myself – “Yum, extra protein”. Those talented arm endings desperately need a moisturizer too, as we saw from the video we shot. Because we're also a film maker now.

So, for the dressing, you’ll need soaked almonds or cashews or if you have a nut allergy – sunflower seeds or tahini might work as well. We just don’t know how much tahini. She said as a professional chef.

You will also need a blender and many other things (being detail-oriented and exhaustive is another one of our weaknesses).

Once you make the sweet and spicy dressing you can use it on any lettuce- or cabbage-based salad. You can lock it up in a jar and keep it in the fridge for a while. At least a few days.

The healthy cabbage salad with the creamy dressing was pretty substantial for lunch and it kept us energized through the rest of the day. However the next day we had the dressing and the same salad with some leftover salmon, rice and broccoli as well as avocado for dinner. The combo was notable. Maybe next time no rice.

Healthy Sweet And Spicy Cabbage Salad Ingredients

Here’s what you need to make the healthy sweet and spicy cabbage salad:

  • green cabbage
  • red cabbage
  • dill
  • scallion
  • carrot

For the dressing:

  • soaked almonds or cashews
  • water
  • turmeric
  • chili powder or crushed red pepper
  • handful basil leaves
  • a small orange
  • garlic
  • grated ginger
  • vinegar
  • tamari sauce
  • salt and pepper

How it comes together

For the dressing add the soaked nuts or seeds, as well as the orange, turmeric, chili powder, basil, garlic, ginger, vinegar and tamari sauce to a blender and add a some of the water.

Blend and if too thick, add in more water and blend again to get a smooth texture. Taste test and add salt and pepper if needed.

For the cabbage salad, thinly chop the cabbage, scallion and dill and ribbon carrot or grate it. Massage the cabbage and carrots with a little bit of salt and vinegar to combine and make it soften.

Then add the healthy creamy dressing (as much as desired) and mix it with the vegetables.

Enjoy as is or serve on the side!
