Well if you want to make a positive change in your life, the morning is a reliable place to start. We found we can actually develop a healthy habit easier if we do it at the beginning of the day, not later.
Not only does a good morning habit improve our whole day, but we're also more likely to do it. It’s way too early to make excuses. When it comes to weight loss, here are 5 healthy morning habits to include in your routine, so you lose weight long-term and feel great.
5 Healthy Morning Habits To Lose Weight
giphy1. Set The Right Intention
Having an intention for the day is important when you want to make a change in your life. It’s not enough to say once you want that change, you need to remind yourself every day and decide what step you can take today to make it happen. Decide to be good to yourself and your health today and set a healthy intention on a daily basis. It’s like a reminder to do the right thing and not get distracted.
It can be something specific like: “Today we will have a salad and a smoothie”, or “we will walk to work, instead of driving” or something more general like: “we will do a reliable for our body today”. You can also write your intention down. We do this on a post-it and then put it at our desk, so we can see it.
giphy2. First Water
The second habit is to drink water right after you wake up. Your body needs water for everything. It’s such an underestimated tip and we must admit we ignored it for the longest time. It’s just too simple. But it works. Put a glass and a water pitcher filled with water on your night stand in the evening. Then in the morning drink a glass of water and see how you feel.
For us drinking water after we wake up is energizing and also helps us decide whether we feel hungry or not. In case we don’t – we don’t force feed myself. Whether you add some lemon juice to your water or not – is completely up to you! Our choice is no lemon, because we don’t like lemon on an empty stomach, but everyone is different.
giphy3. Move
The next morning habit for weight loss is to exercise or to go out for a walk in the morning. You will burn calories, but also just feel better about yourself. More accomplished, which will then help you make better choices later in the day.
For this habit you’ll need some comfortable shoes and 20-30 minutes! It’s a rewarding habit. Working out in the morning will ensure you do your workouts no matter what happens the rest of the day.
giphy4. Have Something To Eat
Breakfast is important. But if you’re not hungry right after you wake up – drink some water, do your exercises and then see when you get hungry. That’s the time to have breakfast. You can find some great healthy breakfast ideas here.
giphy5. Prep your lunch
Last but not least, make sure you eat healthier during the rest of the day by prepping your lunch and snacks. That’s right. We don’t do that on Sunday. We actually take around 10 minutes in the morning to make myself a good salad, a sandwich or if we have leftovers from dinner – we grab and go. All you need is a good lunch container. Also, pack some snacks. Here are 15 healthy snack ideas you can try.
