Hello, fitness family! Linley here, and it feels great to be sharing a workout post with you all again. If you follow us on Instagram, you already get a glimpse into our team’s diverse fitness journey. For those who don’t, allow me to shed some light on our evolving approach to exercise. We’ve learned that our workout routines, much like our dietary habits, tend to have a natural ebb and flow. The key, as we always emphasize, is to #listentoyourbody.

Currently, our team is deeply immersed in activities like yoga, climbing, and cycling. This shift isn’t arbitrary; it’s a mindful response to our bodies’ and minds’ needs. Many of us navigate various forms of anxiety or depression, and integrating more yoga into our week has proven incredibly beneficial for both mental clarity and physical well-being. Cycling, too, has become a staple, particularly to support Lee’s back health and to aid in my ongoing management of an old IT band issue. Will we eventually pivot back to more running or other high-impact activities? Most likely. But for now, we are consciously choosing what serves our bodies best, and that’s a powerful feeling – WAWHOO!

I personally love this workout for a multitude of reasons, making it a versatile and impactful addition to any fitness regimen:

This intelligent combination ensures your heart rate stays elevated, maximizing calorie burn and improving cardiovascular health, all while simultaneously building lean muscle in your lower body.
  • Dual Benefit Workout: Why choose between cardio and strength when you can have both? This workout efficiently delivers a powerful booty burn alongside a robust cardio fix, making your workout time incredibly efficient and productive.
  • Perfect for Leg Day: If you’re looking to enhance your weekly leg day routine, look no further. This workout provides a comprehensive challenge for your glutes, quads, and hamstrings, ensuring balanced lower body development.

My Personal Journey: Marathon Training and This Booty Burner

This particular booty burner workout holds significant importance for me right now. As many of you know, I’ve been diligently working on strengthening the muscles supporting my knees. The reason? I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be running the Yosemite Half Marathon! That’s right, Emily and I are gearing up for an unforgettable trip to Yosemite to conquer this race, with Lee joining us as our incredible moral support—HECK YEAH!

This isn’t just any race; it’s a momentous occasion for several reasons. Not only will the Yosemite Half Marathon be the first half marathon I’ve run since my debilitating IT band injury six years ago, but I’ll also be celebrating my 30th birthday on race day! The excitement is palpable. And speaking of preparation, get ready, people: Emily is crafting an amazing training program specifically designed for half marathons, and by-gosh, it’s going to be awesome.

Workouts like this comprehensive booty routine are absolutely crucial for my cross-training days. They are instrumental in helping me build and maintain the strength in my lower body and core, ensuring that my muscles are resilient, stable, and ready to tackle the demands of a half marathon. Your Ultimate 45-Minute Booty Workout

This workout is designed for maximum efficiency and impact. The structure is straightforward: perform each strength exercise for 1 minute, followed immediately by its corresponding cardio burst for 30 seconds. Complete each of the three circuits three times through before taking a 1-minute rest. This approach ensures your heart rate stays up, and your muscles are consistently challenged. The entire workout, including a crucial cool-down stretch, totals approximately 45 minutes. Remember, you can perform this routine with just your bodyweight or elevate the challenge by adding light dumbbells.

Essential Equipment:

  • Optional: 5-10 lb. dumbbells (or adjust to your strength level)
  • Comfortable workout attire and supportive shoes
  • Water bottle to stay hydrated

Warm-Up (5 minutes)

Before diving into the main circuits, a proper warm-up is essential to prepare your muscles and prevent injury. Aim for 30-60 seconds per movement:

  • Light Cardio: Marching in place, light jogging, or jumping jacks to elevate heart rate.
  • Dynamic Stretches: Leg swings (forward/backward and side-to-side), hip circles, arm circles, torso twists, cat-cow stretches.
  • Bodyweight Squats: Focus on proper form, going through a comfortable range of motion.
  • Walking Lunges: Gentle strides to activate glutes and hamstrings.

Circuit #1: Glute & Leg Power

Perform each exercise for 1 minute, followed by 30 seconds of cardio. Complete this circuit 3 times before resting.

  • Lunge with Leg Lift (Right Leg): Step back into a lunge. As you come up, immediately lift your right leg straight back, squeezing your glute. Maintain balance and control.
    • Cardio: Jumping Jacks: A classic full-body cardio burst to keep your heart rate high.
  • Lunge with Leg Lift (Left Leg): Repeat the lunge with leg lift on the left side, focusing on stability and glute activation.
    • Cardio: High Knees: Drive your knees towards your chest, engaging your core and getting those legs pumping.
  • Squat with Twist (Right and Left): Perform a standard squat. As you stand up, twist your torso to one side, bringing the opposite elbow towards the outside of your knee. Alternate sides with each squat.
    • Cardio: Butt Kickers: Run in place, aiming to kick your heels towards your glutes with each step.

Rest for 1 minute after completing Circuit #1 three times.

Circuit #2: Balance & Dynamic Strength

Perform each exercise for 1 minute, followed by 30 seconds of cardio. Complete this circuit 3 times before resting.

  • Airplane to Front Raise (Right Leg): Stand on your left leg. Hinge at your hips, extending your right leg straight back while reaching your arms forward (like an airplane). Return to standing. (If using dumbbells, perform a front raise with arms as you hinge.)
    • Cardio: Jumping Jacks: Explosive movement to maintain cardiovascular intensity.
  • Airplane to Lateral Raise (Left Leg): Stand on your right leg. Hinge at your hips, extending your left leg straight back. (If using dumbbells, perform a lateral raise with arms out to the sides as you hinge.)
    • Cardio: High Knees: Continue to drive your knees up, focusing on a strong, consistent rhythm.
  • In and Out Squats: Start with feet together. Jump feet out into a squat stance, then jump them back together. Keep the movement fluid and fast.
    • Cardio: Butt Kickers: Quick, controlled movements to challenge your hamstrings and elevate heart rate.

Rest for 1 minute after completing Circuit #2 three times.

Circuit #3: Glute Isolation & Endurance

Perform each exercise for 1 minute, followed by 30 seconds of cardio. Complete this circuit 3 times before resting.

  • Glute Leg Lifts (Right Leg): Get on all fours (hands and knees). Keeping your right knee bent at 90 degrees, lift your right leg straight up towards the ceiling, squeezing your glute at the top. Lower with control.
    • Cardio: Jumping Jacks: Final burst of full-body cardio to finish strong.
  • Glute Leg Lifts (Left Leg): Repeat the glute leg lifts on your left side, maintaining core engagement and controlled movement.
    • Cardio: High Knees: Push through these last cardio intervals, giving it your all.
  • Squat Pulses: Lower into a squat position and hold. From this position, perform small, quick up-and-down “pulses,” keeping tension on your glutes and quads.
    • Cardio: Butt Kickers: One last push with butt kickers to maximize your cardio output.

Cool-Down & Stretching (5-10 minutes)

Never skip your cool-down! This helps reduce muscle soreness and improves flexibility. Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds, breathing deeply.

  • Quad Stretch: Stand tall, grab one ankle, and gently pull your heel towards your glute.
  • Hamstring Stretch: Sit on the floor, extend one leg, and reach towards your toes.
  • Glute Stretch (Figure Four): Lie on your back, cross one ankle over the opposite knee, and gently pull the bottom thigh towards your chest.
  • Calf Stretch: Lean against a wall with one leg back, heel on the floor, feeling the stretch in your calf.
  • Hip Flexor Stretch: Kneel on one knee, with the other foot forward, gently pushing your hips forward.
