Seattle has, without a doubt, officially stolen my heart. For years, the Denver area held the top spot as my favorite city, but the Emerald City has surpassed all expectations. I am utterly captivated by its unique vibe, the breathtaking natural terrain, the dynamic urban core, the welcoming people, and its unparalleled proximity to both majestic mountains and the serene ocean. It truly stands out as one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities I have ever had the privilege to experience.
My journey to this captivating Pacific Northwest gem began with a simple invitation from my sister, Michelle. Her husband was unable to attend a wedding, and naturally, she chose her favorite (and only) sister – me! Her convincing argument? A single, powerful word: “hiking.” No further persuasion was necessary. I absolutely cherish traveling with my sister. We share an incredible bond, finding joy and making every situation, no matter how mundane, exceptionally fun and interesting. One of the aspects I love most about our dynamic as travel companions is our shared willingness to strike up conversations with strangers. This, in my opinion, is often the most rewarding part of any journey: connecting with fellow travelers and, crucially, immersing ourselves in the local culture by meeting the residents who call these incredible places home.

Pike Place Market: Seattle’s Iconic Hub of Awesomeness
Pike Place Market: Stepping into Pike Place Market is an experience that transcends mere shopping; it’s a sensory feast and a vibrant celebration of local life. As a huge enthusiast of farmer’s markets, Pike Place did not just meet my expectations, it soared past them. This iconic destination is a fantastic fusion of a bustling farmer’s market, a unique artisan flea market, and an epicurean paradise overflowing with local food vendors. From the moment you arrive, the air crackles with energy, filled with the aroma of fresh seafood, blooming flowers, and exotic spices. The famous fishmongers dramatically tossing their catch, the vibrant displays of fresh produce, and the endless stalls offering handcrafted goods create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else.
My only regret was not being able to sample all the food! If I lived or worked in downtown Seattle, I would undoubtedly make a weekly pilgrimage to this cherished spot. Imagine the ritual: picking up the freshest local seafood for dinner, a gorgeous, affordable bouquet of flowers to brighten my home, a jar of exquisite local honey, and a basket of seasonal, farm-fresh produce. The market was absolutely teeming with people, yet the energy was infectious rather than overwhelming, amplified by the lively sounds of buskers and street performers around every corner. We could have easily spent hours, if not an entire day, leisurely wandering through the labyrinthine aisles, discovering each unique vendor, and soaking in the authentic spirit of Seattle. It was truly love at first sight for this market.

Green Lake: An Urban Oasis for Recreation and Relaxation
Green Lake: Are you searching for a quick, scenic, and invigorating 5k experience right within Seattle? Look no further than Green Lake! For those familiar with the Twin Cities, imagine Green Lake as Seattle’s charming equivalent to Lake Calhoun. This beautiful urban oasis boasts a dedicated walking and biking path that encircles the entire lake, making it incredibly pedestrian-friendly and a haven for active locals and visitors alike. The path itself measures approximately 2.8 miles, offering a perfect distance for a brisk walk, an enjoyable run, or a leisurely bike ride, all while enjoying spectacular views of the water and the lush surroundings.
Beyond the picturesque loop, Green Lake’s charm extends to its vibrant surrounding neighborhood. We only had limited time to explore, but what we saw was incredibly captivating: an array of super cute, independently owned restaurants, inviting cafes, and unique boutique shops. The area exudes a lively, community-focused atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind after some exercise, grab a coffee, or enjoy a delicious meal. Whether you’re a serious runner looking for a picturesque route or simply seeking a tranquil spot for a leisurely stroll and some people-watching, Green Lake offers a delightful escape from the city’s hustle, without ever leaving its bounds.

Little Si: A Rewarding Day Hike Near Seattle
Little Si (4.7 mi): For travelers seeking an accessible yet incredibly rewarding day hike during their Seattle visit, Little Si is an absolute must. Conveniently located in the North Bend area, just a short and easy drive outside of the city, this trail offers a perfect escape into the lush Pacific Northwest wilderness. The round trip distance clocks in at approximately 4.7 miles, featuring a respectable 1,300-foot elevation gain that provides a satisfying challenge without being overly strenuous for regular hikers.
What truly enchanted me about Little Si was the distinct terrain. The forest here is simply magnificent; the trees stand incredibly tall and ancient, creating a dense canopy that filters the sunlight into ethereal patterns. The vibrant mosses and ferns carpeting the forest floor felt distinctly different from the flora back in Minneapolis, immersing us in an entirely new natural world. The winding path, though ascending, was well-maintained and offered a delightful journey through this verdant landscape. The ultimate reward awaited us at the summit: a stunning lookout that truly made us feel as though we were literally in the clouds. The panoramic views, even when partially obscured by mist, were breathtaking, a perfect culmination to a wonderfully invigorating hike.

Mount Rainier – Sunrise Visitor Center: An Alpine Dream at Frozen Lake & Mount Fremont Lookout
Mt. Rainier – Sunrise Visitor Center – Frozen Lake + Mt. Fremont Lookout (6.3 mi.): One of the absolute highlights Michelle and I were determined to experience was an excursion to the majestic Mount Rainier National Park. Located approximately two hours southeast of Seattle, this natural wonder promises unparalleled alpine beauty. To maximize our time, we rose super early on Saturday morning, hitting the road by 7 AM, armed with steaming cups of coffee and an abundance of enthusiasm.
The drive itself was an adventure, watching the thermometer steadily drop from a comfortable 60ºF to a crisp 45ºF in a matter of minutes as we ascended into the mountains. Yet, we truly lucked out with the weather. Instead of the typical Pacific Northwest rain and heavy overcast skies, we were greeted with glorious blue skies for most of our visit, punctuated by only a few patchy clouds. The air was brisk and invigorating, just cold enough to warrant a headband and gloves – perfect hiking weather! Our destination was the iconic Sunrise Visitor Center, which serves as a gateway to a handful of spectacular trails. To our sheer delight, Saturday happened to be Free National Park Day, granting us complimentary entry into the park! A definite “WOOT” moment!
From the Sunrise Visitor Center, we embarked on a captivating 6.3-mile out-and-back loop trail that led us to the famed Mt. Fremont Lookout. On a perfectly clear day, the lookout hut offers awe-inspiring, unobstructed views of the towering Mt. Fremont itself and the surrounding peaks. While we caught tantalizing glimpses, by the end of our hike, the clouds had elegantly rolled in, creating a dramatic, mystical atmosphere. I would categorize this as a moderate hike; the elevation gain, while present, felt less demanding than Little Si, but the extended distance provided a satisfying endurance challenge.
A truly unforgettable moment was our encounter with a herd of wild Mountain Goats. We even spotted adorable babies among them – so incredibly cute and a testament to the thriving wildlife in the park! This close interaction with nature’s inhabitants added another layer of magic to an already incredible day. As we descended, my sister Shell and I made a solemn pact: one day, we shall return to summit Mount Rainier. And when we do, it will be nothing short of AWESOME.

Seattle’s Culinary Delights: A Foodie’s Paradise
Daily Dozen Doughnuts: A Sweet Treat at Pike Place
Daily Dozen Doughnuts: If you find yourself exploring the vibrant aisles of Pike Place Market and a craving for a quick, satisfying sweet snack strikes, Daily Dozen Doughnuts absolutely needs to be at the top of your list! We indulged in a half dozen doughnut holes, and I can confidently say they were top-notch. As a self-proclaimed “sucker for sprinkle doughnuts,” these delightfully fresh and perfectly sweetened treats were simply delish. The maple bacon flavor, with its perfect balance of sweet and savory, was a very close second, offering an unexpected but incredibly satisfying twist.

Lowell’s: Waterfront Dining with Iconic Views
Lowell’s: For an unforgettable lunch experience right within Pike Place Market, I wholeheartedly recommend Lowell’s. This establishment proved to be a delicious choice, offering not only a fantastic menu but also some of the most awesome, unobstructed views of the sparkling water. Their diverse menu provides something for everyone, but for our lunch, I opted for the refreshing Chicken and Apple Salad, a perfect light and flavorful choice. Michelle, eager to sample local flavors, enjoyed the perfectly cooked Salmon Filet Sandwich. But let me emphasize this point: their fries are, without exaggeration, AMAZE BALLS. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and utterly addictive, they are a culinary highlight in themselves.

Oak: A Beacon Hill Gem for Local, Sustainable Fare
Oak: Tucked away in Seattle’s charming Beacon Hill neighborhood, where our AirBnB was conveniently located, we stumbled upon Oak, a true hidden gem. This delightful spot was less than two blocks from our accommodation, and we discovered it quite by chance one morning while seeking out coffee. If your culinary philosophy aligns with mine, prioritizing local and sustainable ingredients, then you will absolutely fall in love with Oak. Their commitment to fresh, responsibly sourced food is evident in every dish. After a long and invigorating day of hiking, their giant bowl of Spicy Beef Chili was the perfect restorative meal – warm, hearty, and packed with incredible flavor. It was exactly what my body craved, a comforting and delicious end to an adventurous day.

Full Tilt Ice Cream: A Scoop of Happiness
Full Tilt Ice Cream: For me, ice cream isn’t just a dessert; it’s a fundamental food group, and Full Tilt Ice Cream certainly did not disappoint! This vibrant and quirky establishment impressed me with its commitment to inclusivity, offering a remarkable selection of ten different vegan flavors, all crafted with creamy coconut milk. This thoughtful offering is truly commendable. While I appreciated the vegan options, I ultimately stuck to my dairy preferences and indulged in one of my all-time favorite flavors: pistachio. Each spoonful was a delightful burst of nutty, sweet perfection, solidifying Full Tilt as a must-visit for any ice cream aficionado in Seattle.
Victrola Coffee: Fueling Seattle Adventures
Victrola Coffee: It’s no secret that I have a slight, perhaps even borderline illegal, obsession with coffee. The sheer volume I consume might raise an eyebrow or two! Thankfully, Seattle caters beautifully to coffee lovers, and Victrola Coffee quickly became a cherished part of our daily routine. Situated just two blocks from our AirBnB, this cafe was not only incredibly convenient but also incredibly cute. The atmosphere was inviting, and most importantly, the coffee was excellent, with their lattes being particularly amazing. It was the perfect spot to kickstart our mornings before embarking on another day of Seattle exploration.
Stoneburner: Brunch in the Lively Ballard Neighborhood
Stoneburner: On Sunday, Michelle and I had the pleasure of meeting two high school friends for a delightful brunch at Stoneburner, located in the charming and bustling Ballard neighborhood. The experience was truly delish from start to finish. Their menu was thoughtfully curated and reasonably priced, offering a range of enticing options. I particularly loved the warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant, which felt both sophisticated and comfortable. The Ballard neighborhood itself is a really cool area to explore, brimming with unique shops, lively cafes, and even its own farmer’s market, making it a perfect destination for a leisurely weekend outing.
For my brunch, I ordered the Polenta Cake with Poached Eggs, a dish that was both comforting and sophisticated, perfectly prepared and incredibly delightful. We also started with a generous serving of zucchini bread, which was equally delicious and set a lovely tone for our meal. Stoneburner provided the perfect setting for reconnecting with old friends and enjoying a memorable meal in one of Seattle’s most appealing neighborhoods.

<<<< Wedding >>>>
Beyond the breathtaking landscapes and culinary delights, a central reason for our Seattle sojourn was a truly beautiful wedding. This was, without exaggeration, one of the most stunning weddings I have ever attended. The happy couple, Bre and Bryan, are close friends of my sister, Michelle. They met during law school at The University of Colorado and have been the best of friends ever since. It was an absolute delight and honor to be my sister’s date for such a special occasion, celebrating the love of people she holds so dear.
The wedding venue itself was nothing short of magical: a picturesque tree farm nestled in Issaquah, Washington. Imagine the natural beauty of towering trees creating a serene, almost sacred, backdrop for the ceremony. It was a perfect fall night, blessed with clear blue skies that transitioned into a starlit evening. Adding to the enchantment, we even caught a glimpse of a lunar eclipse, which was an unexpected and truly cool celestial bonus, making the night feel even more special and memorable. I was particularly struck by the wedding’s charming simplicity, an elegant celebration focused on joy and love amidst natural beauty. And I must give credit where credit is due: the food was absolutely top-notch. You simply cannot go wrong with an all-you-can-eat BBQ spread, which was executed to perfection, satisfying every guest.
Finally, a special shout-out to my sister for the gorgeous dress I wore! She sourced it from a lovely boutique in the Twin Cities called Primp, and it was absolutely perfect for the occasion, adding a touch of glamour to an already wonderful evening.

Reflecting on our action-packed weekend, I honestly didn’t think it was possible to pack so much into just a few days, but I am incredibly glad we did! The more I can experience and discover in a city, the better I feel I understand its true essence. My overall impressions of Seattle can truly be summarized with a heart emoji. This city has an undeniable charm, a vibrant spirit, and a natural beauty that calls to the soul. From its bustling markets and serene lakes to its challenging hikes and incredible food scene, Seattle offers a multifaceted experience that leaves a lasting impression.
Seriously, someone please give me a compelling reason to move there! The allure of waking up to mountain views, having easy access to both urban excitement and wilderness adventures, and immersing myself in such a dynamic culture is incredibly strong. Seattle isn’t just a destination; it feels like a place that could truly become home, a city where every day promises a new adventure and an opportunity to fall even more deeply in love with the Pacific Northwest.
