Crispy Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower Wings: Your New Favorite Appetizer
If you’re a devoted wing enthusiast looking for a healthier, plant-based alternative that doesn’t compromise on flavor or crunch, this air fryer cauliflower wings recipe is about to revolutionize your snack game! Forget the deep-fryer; these vibrant florets are air-fried to golden perfection, then generously coated in a zesty, homemade buffalo sauce. They’re undeniably crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and so satisfying that you’ll want to whip them up for every gathering, especially on game day.
Our recipe begins with fresh cauliflower florets, expertly seasoned and coated in a unique almond meal mixture. The air fryer works its magic, transforming them into irresistibly crunchy bites. A quick toss in our simple, tangy buffalo sauce, and voilà – you have a dish that’s bursting with flavor and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Why the Air Fryer is a Game Changer for Cauliflower Wings
You, our amazing community, absolutely adored our Baked Buffalo Cauliflower Wings. Building on that success, we knew an air fryer variation was a must! The air fryer has become an indispensable kitchen appliance for us, rarely leaving the countertop. Why? Because when it comes to achieving that coveted crispy texture without excessive oil, the air fryer delivers every single time.
These air fryer cauliflower wings offer all the fun and flavor of traditional wings, but in a much healthier package. By circulating hot air around the cauliflower, the air fryer creates a delightfully crunchy exterior, mimicking the deep-fried experience without the need for vats of oil. This means less fat, fewer calories, and a lighter dish that you can feel great about enjoying, whether it’s a quick snack or a hearty appetizer.
Beyond health benefits, the air fryer significantly cuts down on cooking time and makes cleanup a breeze. It’s perfect for busy weeknights or when you need to whip up a delicious appetizer in a hurry. The consistent heat ensures even cooking and browning, producing perfectly crisp cauliflower florets every single time.
Almond Flour vs. Panko Breadcrumbs: The Ultimate Coating Showdown
Before finalizing this recipe, we conducted a little informal poll on Instagram, and the results were clear: many of you were eager to try a Panko breadcrumb coating for these air fryer buffalo cauliflower wings. We appreciate your input and love experimenting with different ingredients!
However, after rigorous testing in our kitchen, we’re here to share some unexpected findings. While Panko is a fantastic ingredient for many crispy dishes, for *this particular recipe*, the almond flour coating emerged as the clear winner. We put both methods head-to-head, and here’s why almond flour excelled:
- Superior Adhesion: The almond flour mixture clung to the cauliflower florets much more effectively, creating a consistent and robust coating that held up beautifully during air frying. Panko, unfortunately, had a tougher time sticking, resulting in a patchy and less satisfying crust.
- Unmatched Crispiness: While Panko can get crispy, the fine texture of blanched superfine almond meal, combined with our spice blend, achieved an unparalleled crispiness in the air fryer. The result was a genuinely crunchy exterior that contrasted perfectly with the tender cauliflower inside.
- Flavor and Texture Profile: The almond meal also contributed a subtle, nutty flavor that complemented the buffalo sauce wonderfully, adding another layer of complexity to the dish. Its fine grind created a delicate yet firm crust that was simply irresistible.
We understand that personal preferences vary, and if you’re still keen on using Panko breadcrumbs, you absolutely can! Feel free to substitute it 1:1 for the almond flour in the recipe. Just be mindful that the texture and adhesion might differ slightly from our preferred almond flour method. We encourage you to try both and see which one you love most!

Essential Tips for Flawless Air Fryer Cauliflower Wings
Achieving perfectly crispy and delicious air fryer cauliflower wings is simple, but a few key techniques can make all the difference. Don’t skip these crucial tips to ensure your wings turn out amazing every time:
- Bite-Sized Pieces: This is fundamental for several reasons. First, smaller florets cook more evenly and quickly in the air fryer. Second, they become wonderfully tender throughout, creating that perfect “wing-like” texture. Third, they’re easier to eat! Aim for pieces that are roughly 1 to 1.5 inches in size. You can even trim the stems down to make them more akin to traditional chicken wings.
- Evenly Coat: The coating is where all the magic happens for crispiness and flavor. Ensure each floret is thoroughly submerged in the egg wash, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge them generously in the almond flour and spice mixture. Don’t rush this step; take your time to press the coating onto each piece, ensuring full coverage. A well-coated floret guarantees maximum crunch.
- Cook in Batches: This is perhaps the most critical tip for any air fryer recipe, especially for achieving crispiness. Overcrowding the air fryer basket is the enemy of crispiness. When too many items are packed in, the hot air cannot circulate effectively around each piece, leading to steaming instead of frying. Cook your cauliflower wings in single layers, or at most, with a little bit of touching, as they will shrink slightly during cooking. It’s better to do two or three batches than to have a soggy single batch.
- Toss Halfway: For uniform browning and crispiness, gently toss or shake the air fryer basket halfway through the cooking process. For this recipe, around the 6-7 minute mark is ideal. This ensures that all sides of the cauliflower florets are exposed to the direct heat, preventing one side from being overdone while the other remains soft.
- Cook Until Golden Brown: Just like conventional ovens, air fryers can vary in temperature and efficiency. Use the suggested cooking time as a guideline, but always rely on visual cues. Your cauliflower wings are perfectly done when they are beautifully golden brown and have a visibly crispy exterior. Don’t be afraid to add an extra minute or two if they need it.

Want to Achieve Extra Caramelized and Sticky Wings?
While these air fryer buffalo cauliflower wings are absolutely delicious straight out of the air fryer and tossed in sauce, there’s an optional step you can take to elevate them even further: caramelization!
Once your air-fried cauliflower is perfectly crispy and has been tossed in the rich buffalo sauce, you can eat them immediately. However, for those who crave an extra layer of sticky, caramelized goodness, simply spread them out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Then, broil them in your oven for 2-4 minutes. Keep a very close eye on them during this process, as broiler temperatures can vary, and they can go from perfectly sticky to burnt very quickly. This quick broil creates a slightly charred, intensely flavorful, and wonderfully sticky coating that takes these wings to the next level.
Explore More Flavor Combinations Beyond Buffalo
While classic buffalo sauce is a timeless favorite for these crispy cauliflower wings, the versatility of the air-fried florets means you’re not limited to just one flavor profile! If you’re not in the mood for the tangy heat of buffalo, or simply want to try something new, here are some other exciting sauces you can toss your cauliflower in after they’re done air frying:
- Honey Sriracha: For a delightful balance of sweet and spicy, mix together equal parts honey and sriracha. This creates a vibrant sauce that’s perfect for those who enjoy a little kick with a touch of sweetness. Adjust the ratio to your preference – more honey for sweetness, more sriracha for heat!
- BBQ Sauce: Dive into smoky and savory flavors with your favorite barbecue sauce. You can use a high-quality store-bought option for convenience or challenge yourself by making your own homemade BBQ sauce for a truly unique taste. From sweet and sticky to smoky and spicy, the possibilities are endless with BBQ.
- Garlic Parmesan: Combine melted butter with minced garlic, a dash of Italian seasoning, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese for a rich and aromatic coating. This classic flavor is always a hit and provides a wonderfully savory alternative.
- Lemon Pepper: For a lighter, zesty option, toss your crispy cauliflower in a blend of melted butter, fresh lemon juice, and plenty of lemon pepper seasoning. It’s bright, peppery, and incredibly refreshing.
- Asian Zing / Sweet Chili: A sweet chili sauce or a homemade Asian-inspired glaze (soy sauce, ginger, garlic, a touch of brown sugar, and sesame oil) will give your wings an exotic, umami-packed twist.
- Sauceless (“Naked” Wings): Not a huge sauce person? Or perhaps you prefer a milder flavor? Simply enjoy these air fryer cauliflower wings “naked” – straight out of the air fryer with no sauce! Their seasoned, crispy coating is flavorful enough on its own, making them a fantastic crunchy snack or side dish. A sprinkle of fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon can add a simple, refreshing touch.
Don’t hesitate to get creative with your favorite flavor combinations. The crispy cauliflower is a blank canvas!

Irresistible Dipping Sauce Ideas to Complete Your Meal
No plate of wings is complete without a selection of delicious dipping sauces! These air fryer buffalo cauliflower wings pair beautifully with a variety of dips that complement their spicy, tangy flavor. Here are some of our top recommendations:
- Classic Ranch Dressing: A timeless pairing! You can opt for your favorite store-bought ranch dressing for convenience, or elevate your experience by making your own homemade healthy ranch. It’s surprisingly easy and tastes so much fresher!
- Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing: For true buffalo wing aficionados, blue cheese dressing is a non-negotiable. We’re big blue cheese people ourselves and always prepare our Greek Yogurt Blue Cheese Dressing whenever we make any kind of buffalo wings. The Greek yogurt base makes it lighter without sacrificing any of that rich, pungent flavor.
- Smooth Hummus: Looking for a healthier, plant-based dip? Hummus is an excellent choice. Simply mix some store-bought or homemade hummus with a little bit of water to achieve a thinner, dippable consistency. Its earthy flavor is a wonderful counterpoint to the spicy wings.
- Quick Greek Yogurt & Frank’s Hot Sauce Dip: This is a super simple, yet incredibly satisfying dip that comes together in seconds. Combine 1/4 cup of plain non-fat Greek yogurt with 1/2 tablespoon of Frank’s RedHot sauce. Stir well, and you have a creamy, tangy, and slightly spicy dip that’s one of our personal favorites. Adjust the hot sauce to your desired level of heat.
- Cooling Avocado Crema: Blend ripe avocado with lime juice, a hint of garlic, and a touch of water or plant-based milk for a creamy, refreshing dip that balances the heat.
- Sweet Honey Mustard: A mix of Dijon mustard, honey, and a touch of mayo or Greek yogurt creates a sweet and tangy dip that kids and adults alike will love.
Don’t forget to serve your wings with classic celery and carrot sticks alongside your chosen dips for a complete and authentic wing experience!

Storage and Reheating Instructions
It’s rare to have leftovers of these irresistible buffalo cauliflower wings, but if you do, proper storage and reheating can ensure they remain delicious. Keep in mind that air-fried items are best enjoyed fresh for maximum crispiness, but these still hold up well!
Storage
Allow any leftover buffalo cauliflower wings to cool completely to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer them to an airtight container. Store the container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. We recommend storing them separately from any dipping sauces to prevent sogginess.
Reheating
To bring your cauliflower wings back to life and regain some of that wonderful crispiness, we highly recommend reheating them in an air fryer or oven:
- Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the leftover wings in a single layer in the basket (do not overcrowd). Air fry for 3-5 minutes, or until thoroughly heated through and re-crisped. Shake the basket halfway through.
- Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the wings on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 5-8 minutes, or until heated through and crispy.
Microwaving is not recommended, as it will likely make the wings soft and lose their crispy texture.

Ingredients
For the Cauliflower
- 4 cups cauliflower florets, (~1 medium head)
- 1 cup blanched superfine almond meal
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 2 large eggs
For the Buffalo Sauce
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup Frank’s Hot Sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- First, prepare your cauliflower by cutting it into small, uniform, bite-sized pieces. Aim for florets about 1 to 1.5 inches to ensure even cooking and a wing-like experience.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the almond meal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper; whisk these dry ingredients thoroughly to create your seasoned coating mixture. In a separate medium bowl, whisk the two large eggs until well combined.
- To prepare the cauliflower wings for air frying, begin by dipping individual cauliflower pieces into the egg wash, ensuring they are fully coated. Allow any excess egg to drip off. Then, transfer a few egg-coated florets at a time into the almond meal mixture. Use a spoon to carefully sprinkle and press the mixture onto the cauliflower, ensuring each piece is evenly and completely coated. Repeat this process until all cauliflower florets are coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 370ºF (185°C). While it’s preheating, lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking. Once preheated, carefully arrange half of your coated cauliflower wings in a single layer on the bottom of the air fryer basket. It’s okay if they touch slightly, but avoid overcrowding as this can prevent crisping. Lightly spray the tops of the cauliflower with cooking spray. You will need to cook these wings in two separate batches for optimal crispiness.
- Air fry the first batch of cauliflower wings at 370ºF (or 375ºF, depending on your specific air fryer model) for 12-15 minutes. At approximately the 6-minute mark, remove the basket and gently shake or toss the wings to ensure even cooking and browning. Continue air frying until the wings are beautifully golden brown and wonderfully crispy. Once done, remove them and set aside while you cook the second batch.
- While your wings are air frying, prepare your simple yet delicious buffalo sauce. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, combine it with the 1/2 cup of Frank’s Hot Sauce and 2 tablespoons of honey. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and the sauce is smooth.
- Once all your cauliflower wings are done air frying and are hot and crispy, transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared buffalo sauce over the wings and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated in the tangy, spicy sauce.
- Serve your crispy air fryer buffalo cauliflower wings immediately, piping hot, with your favorite dipping sauce and fresh celery and carrot sticks on the side. Enjoy!
Tips & Notes
- Almond meal vs. panko breadcrumbs: As detailed above, we found almond meal provides a superior crispy coating that adheres better. However, if you prefer Panko or have it on hand, feel free to swap it 1:1 for the almond meal.
- Adjusting Spice Level: For a milder buffalo sauce, reduce the amount of Frank’s Hot Sauce and increase the honey slightly. For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the buffalo sauce.
- Make it Vegan: To make this recipe completely vegan, substitute the eggs with a plant-based egg replacer (like flax egg) and use a vegan butter alternative for the buffalo sauce. The almond meal coating is naturally dairy-free.
- For a Gluten-Free Option: This recipe is naturally gluten-free thanks to the almond meal! Just ensure all your spices and hot sauce are certified gluten-free.
